Shot Shot Pirate is a fun, simple physics game

shotshotpirate
Shot Shot Pirate is very satisfying, because each level is short and to the point. You know what you have to do and you just do it.

As you may have gathered from the name, you're cast in the role of a pirate. Your goal is to shoot at a diamond and make it fall off a tower of bricks. The height of the tower changes as you progress through the levels. It's not enough to just make the diamond fall off the tower of bricks - it has to fall below a certain line (drawn on the screen) for the level to be completed.

There are also different kinds of bricks, with some heavier than others, and different kinds of ammo. You only get a certain amount of ammo for each level, and when it's gone, you lose. But don't worry! If you don't make it on the first try, it's very easy to restart the level and just give it another shot (or three).

All in all it's a cute game. I've seen similar games with better graphics and music, but the game delivers on its main promise - a few minutes of pure time wasting!

Microsoft's new groove: Buy Xbox Music, get a free Windows Phone

Good news for anyone who'd be willing to trade in an old phone for a Windows Phone—and likes Xbox Music. Microsoft is currently running two deals: Under the first, customers can trade in an old, working, smartphone or tablet for up to $250 of credit at the Microsoft Store. And if that isn’t enough, you can spend $99.90 at that same store for a year’s subscription to Xbox Music—and get a free, unlocked Nokia 520 (AT&T) or 521 (T-Mobile) to boot. The second deal is worth $218.90 alone.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch review: An enterprise-class notebook to fall in love with

ThinkPads have been a class act among business laptops since IBM launched the line over two decades ago. As a Lenovo brand, they remain pricey, but they’re also exceptionally easy to carry and comfortable to use. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch stands out even from its forebears.

I recently took this Windows 8 Pro model with me on a flight from San Francisco to the East Coast and quickly fell into serious like with it. Fabricated from carbon fiber, it’s one of the thinnest and lightest 14-inch Ultrabooks around, and I found its low-glare touchscreen big enough to view spreadsheets without stressing my wrists and fingertips while panning and scrolling. The display was easy to read even in the constantly changing lighting conditions inside the aircraft’s cabin.

Europe's online music players get a break from new EU copyright law

Online music providers such as Spotify, iTunes and Last.fm have been given a boost from a new European Union law approved on Tuesday.

The new Collective Rights Management Directive was approved by the European Parliament by 640 votes to 18, with 22 abstentions. Under the new law, online music service providers in the E.U. will be able to obtain licenses from collective management organizations that are valid across the entire 28-country bloc. Currently management organizations representing authors’ rights are generally confined to single countries.

With licenses covering more than one member state, service providers should find it easier to offer streaming music services across the E.U. It also means that Internet users will have more legal access to copyright-protected content.
